The weekend is approaching, and from Friday to Sunday it will be “fight-o-clock” somewhere in the world. Every Thursday, The Ring will bring you the most up-to-date information on the most relevant fights you need to see in this week-at-a-glance, one-stop enhanced fight schedule. A quick checklist for the cognoscenti, a useful nuts-and-bolts guide for the boxing neophyte is what we’re aiming at.

Here are this week’s most relevant fights:

Thursday, June 8 – Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, Indio, Calif.

Manuel Flores vs. Walter Santibanes – bantamweight – 10 rounds

The unbeaten Flores could make a big statement against the tough Santibanes after building up his record against modest opposition in the past two years.

Also on this card:

Jelena Mrdjenovich vs. Calista Silgado – women’s featherweight – 10 rounds

Daniel Garcia vs. Luis May – junior lightweight – 6 rounds

Patricio Manuel vs. Alexander Gutierrez – junior lightweight – 4 rounds

Friday, June 9 – Commerce Casino, Commerce, Calif.

Callum Walsh vs. Carson Jones – junior middleweight – 10 rounds

The supremely talented Walsh is being managed wisely and trained expertly by Freddie Roach, and is already a headliner after only six pro bouts. A prospect to watch, indeed.

Also on this card:

Umar Dzambekov vs. Crispulo Andino – light heavyweight – 10 rounds

Friday, June 9 – Casino Miami Jai Alai, Miami

Adrien Broner vs. Bill Hutchinson – welterweight – 10 rounds

Last-minute change of opponents, almost no press before the event, and more of the same Broner-being-Broner thing. Let’s hope for an uneventful weigh-in and an above-average showing by “About Billions” before we arrive at any other conclusions.

Saturday, June 10 – Madison Square Garden, New York

Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez – junior welterweight – 12 rounds

A terrific matchup between two highly entertaining fighters. Taylor is the favorite in everyone’s prediction but no one would be surprised to see Lopez scoring yet another upset in his hometown. The fight of the weekend, no doubt.

Xander Zayas vs. Ronald Cruz – junior middleweight – 8 rounds

Puerto Rico’s Zayas has demonstrated that he is the real thing. Can he bring on the heat to the next level? Cruz will be a solid test at this stage of Zayas’ career.

Jaime Munguia vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko – super middleweight – 12 rounds

Tough proposition for the unbeaten Munguia. Derevyanchenko may be 1-3 in his last four bouts but he’s as dangerous as they come, and it’s almost impossible to look good against him. A win could definitely give Munguia the confidence to aim even higher.

Also on this card:

Shane Mosley Jr. vs. D’Mitrius Ballard – middleweight – 10 rounds

Mariana Juarez vs. Mayeli Flores – women’s junior featherweight – 10 rounds

Sunny Edwards vs. Andres Campos – flyweight – 12 rounds

Solid fight with a very interesting undercard. Edwards and Campos are trying to turn this into a grudge match with a very colorful war of words, it will be interesting to see whether that spills into the ring or not.

Khalil El-Hadri vs. Nikola Ivkovic – lightweight – 6 rounds

Sunday, June 11 – FLA Live Arena, Sunrise, Florida

Floyd Mayweather vs. John Gotti III – exhibition

Well, finally an offer that we can all refuse. The card is called “Last Names Matter,” but if that’s the only thing that matters then it becomes a shameless money-grab. Which this is, obviously. I say good luck to you both, gents. Catch you somewhere down the line on YouTube.

What to expect in this fight: A hit job on boxing, no less. Leave-a the gloves, take-a the cannoli.
